Obamacare ad blitz debacle

I remember in the days leading up to the passage of Obamacare having discussions (rather heated discussions, actually) about the potential efficacy of the law.  I argued that it is a road to a single payer system.  I argued that there is no way the government could be more efficient at providing healthcare insurance than the private insurers.  One of their big arguments was that there wouldn't be a need for "all that overhead & profit" so a government solution would be simpler. 

I know, I know.  What can I say?  In the words of Ronald Reagan, "Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so."

So here we are.  It's been a few months since the roll out.  The worst of the website access issues have apparently been resolved (or maybe it's that people just don't care so much anymore).  Of course, there are still big "elephants in the room" regarding website issues, sitting there waiting to explode.  For instance, still not having a way to effectively communicate with the back room aspects of buying insurance (like actually processing payments) and of course the biggest issue that is on the horizon:  the fact that the website security is nearly non-existent and made even worst every time there is a patch or fix applied.  And since the website must be connected to other government agencies such as the IRS, HHS, etc. it could be used as a portal into those databases as well.  We shall see.  

But I digress.  One of these liberals largest arguments was about how the lack of  "overhead & profit" would make the system cheaper.  Namely, they pointed to the marketing costs.  Since it'll be mandated, everyone will be required to have it, so "wala" no marketing expense required, right?  Wrong.  

Even as early as last summer it was reported the budget for marketing Obamacare was going to be $684,000,000.   Some of this money was spent on amazing advertising like these, this, and this.  Ironically, since Obamacare has not yet nationalized the health insurers, they too are hopping on the band wagon.  These insurers are expected to kick in another $500,000,000 just in TV advertising alone.    

And now we have the 2014 Winter Olympics about to start and here comes another ad blitz with Magic Johnson and Alonzo Mourning.

So I have to ask, "Where is the efficiency of this new healthcare insurance scheme?"

The list of problems on the role out of Obamacare is lengthy, too lengthy to list here.  But, one of the worst issues is that the website security issues are a mess.  What happens when thousands, possibly millions of Americans have their identity stolen? Who will pay?  Who will be responsible to get these issues straightened out?  

This story only deals with the actual website.  Another point of contact where your identity can get stolen is the healthcare "navigators".  For those of you who don't know what these are, navigators are people who either in person or over the phone take all your information and help you "navigate" the process.  In reality, these are thinly veiled democrats whose main responsibility is to register democrat voters.  Obamacare provided millions of dollars of grants to organizations like Planned Parenthood, ACORN (or whatever they are calling themselves these days), SEIU, etc....  Known felons can apply and receive these jobs as navigators.  These people will gather your Social Security Number, Birth Date, Address, Telephone Number, etc... basically, everything required to steal you identity.



Sharyl Attkisson might be the only true journalist left in the mainstream media.  How she continues to get face time behind enemy lines on the nightly news is beyond me....  My prediction is that if she keeps it up, she'll end up having to seek refuge at FNC.

New HIPAA Review

This is the first page of the "NEW" HIPAA form due to Obamacare from my eye doctor:

I included only page 1 because the rest of the document was rather innocuous.  Clearly, the most disturbing part is section entitled:

"OTHER DISCLOSURES AND USES WE MAY MAKE WITHOUT YOUR AUTHORIZATION OR CONSENT"

I've highlighted the reasons that to me are most offensive.  In order of disturbing they are as follows:

 1.     "uses or disclosures for specialized government functions, such as for the protection of the president or high ranking government officials; for lawful national intelligence activities;  for military purposes; for the evaluation and health of the foreign service;"

• Why would my eye records be subject to uses or disclosures for the protection of the president?
• What is a high ranking government official (i.e., Congressman, Senator, Cabinet Member,  Assemblymen, Mayor, School Board member?)
• What exactly is a "lawful national intelligence activity"?
• Military purposes?  Really, does my having reoccurring chalazion effect the outcome of a war somewhere?
• Foreign service?  Hmmmm....  Just plain weird addition to the list.  Maube just covering their bases?

2.      "incidental disclosures that are an unavoidable by-product of of permitted uses or disclosures;"

• This seems overly broad.  Does this mean that if a 'courier' shows up claiming to the from "the government" and this 'courier' takes a peek at my records it's permitted as incidental & unavoidable?

3.      "disclosures to "business associates" and their subcontractors who perform health care operations for us and who commit to respect the privacy of your health information in accordance with HIPAA;" 

• Why is "business associates" in quotes?  Is this supposed to be like "You know "business associates" with a wink & a nod?  
• Subcontractors?  Why isn't it quotes too?

4.      "for audits by Medicare or Medicaid; or for investigation of possible violations of health care laws;"

• Since I use neither Medicare or Medicaid, why do they need access to my records?

5.      "disclosures for judicial and administrative proceedings, such as in response to subpoenas or orders of courts or administrative agencies;"

• I guess this means that anyone with a court order can get access to my records without my consent.  
• Does this mean even if I am not involved?
• I get subpoenas & court orders for judicial proceedings, but what exactly is an administrative proceeding?  
• Can any administrative agency have access to my record?  The IRS?  The local Health Department?  How about the County Board of Commissioners?   Local Board of Elections?  

6.  "uses or disclosures for health related research;"

• Does this mean by colleges?  Can a masters student at a local community college who may be conducting research for the CDC view my records?

7.    "[specify other uses and disclosures affect by state law]"  

• None was specified, but I don't know if this is intended as a catch all for any other reason.  It seems very broad..... 

Admittedly, some of this may have already been in place.  I don't have a copy of the old HIPAA form, so I can't say that all of these were added by Obamacare.  Regardless of what administration created them, they seem to allow legal access to my eye records by virtually any person associated with any government agency or their sub-contractors.  This is very BIG BROTHER.

This is what our forefathers knew would happen eventually....  This is why they gave us the power of free speech via the 1st Amendment.....

Regardless of party affiliation you should be incensed that this is happening, especially the part about the Department of Justice.  The Obama regime will go down as the most crocked

The stretch of U.S. 65 between Ozark and Branson has some of the Ozarks’ most impressive scenery. There are lush, rolling hills, distant horizons and, if you look east, one of the biggest homes in the United States.

A house currently under construction near Highlandville spans almost a full acre from wall to wall, on a 500-acre site. The ambitious project, nearly three years in and barely at the first floor, totals 72,000 square feet.

Records show the building is owned by the Steven T. Huff Family, LLC....

The property’s deed says the Steven T. Huff Family, LCC is located in Leesburg, Va. Available online records of political campaign contributions show a Steven T. Huff of Leesburg to be an engineer and chief technology officer of Overwatch Systems, Ltd. According to the Overwatch website, the company “delivers multi-source intelligence (multi-INT), geospatial analysis and custom intelligence solutions to the Department of Defense, national agencies and civilian organizations. ... More than 25,000 analysts in the U.S. Department of Defense and the larger intelligence community utilize Overwatch solutions.”

A company overview of Overwatch on the Bloomberg Businessweek website says Overwatch was formerly known as Sensor Systems.

Overwatch also owns the Medical Numerics company, which, according to its website, “enjoys powerful collaborations with the world’s leading medical imaging research organizations, including The United States National Institutes of Health, Harvard Medical School, Yale University, UCLA School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Georgetown University, and Oxford University.”

The Medical Numerics website says Steven Huff founded Sensor Systems—now Overwatch—in 1993.

Apparently, it does pay to work for the government, at least as a IT consultant to the DOD and NIH...

City puts a stop to homeless outreach
Couple must have proper permit to continue feeding dozens each day

Bobby and Amanda Herring spent more than a year providing food to homeless people in downtown Houston every day. They fed them, left behind no trash and doled out warm meals peacefully without a single crime being committed, Bobby Herring said.

That ended two weeks ago when the city shut down their "Feed a Friend" effort for lack of a permit. And city officials say the couple most likely will not be able to obtain one.

Anyone serving food for public consumption, whether for the homeless or for sale, must have a permit, said Kathy Barton, a spokeswoman for the Health and Human Services Department. To get that permit, the food must be prepared in a certified kitchen with a certified food manager.

The regulations are all the more essential in the case of the homeless, Barton said, because "poor people are the most vulnerable to foodborne illness and also are the least likely to have access to health care."

This would be laughable if the results weren't so tragic....
